Llane's Personal Statement

I started painting in my birth land, Cuba in 1997 in a Havana barrio during difficult times for my country, considering the changing colors and loyalties of the world map. I learned to build a defense by creating a separate personal environment, which I translate through brushes, acrylics and oils. I never went to school to study art. The lack of notion of academic theory or techniques is the reason I paint the way I do. I always remain firstly loyal to my vision in which sadness, happiness, tranquility, beauty, and brief moments fly around the canvas in the shape of a dragonflies.

I always try to absorb the flavors, shapes and sounds of beings and plants, as well as the places in which I have lived: Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, Spain and now San Francisco.

So, please let me welcome you to my world of color and symbolism – where a simple seed or a sprout doesn’t just mean a mere seed or a sprout, but represent the force of a growing plethora of ideas, feelings, projects, struggles, leisure, and erections.
